Spring Mushroom Forage

We're excited to offer an immersive afternoon of Spring Mushroom Foraging. Walk in the woods with farm mycologist, Alanna Burns, to explore the sensational seasonal mushrooms that grow in the Harlem Valley. We’ll hunt for edible mushrooms and learn to see and identify the plants and fungi that tell the story of our forests. 

We will cover: identification in the field and at home, sustainable harvest, field guide basics, sensory foraging techniques, fungal ecology, how to prepare and preserve your findings.

Though we can’t promise what we’ll find, we guarantee you will leave with a deeper appreciation for mushrooms, their role in the ecosystem and new skills to use during nature’s greatest treasure hunt.

This program may include walking through pastures, uneven terrain, tall grass and hiking steep trails. Please come dressed for the farm and weather. For your comfort we recommend long pants and closed-toed shoes that will carry you comfortably over a variety of terrain. No prior experience required.
